Salary delayed or unpaid in the UAE? A calm first-response checklist

A practical checklist for a delayed or unpaid UAE salary: what to save, how to calculate the gap and where MoHRE’s official channels fit.

By CaseDaleel Editorial TeamUpdated 25 September 2026UAE · General information

When a salary is late, the financial pressure is immediate. But the strongest first response is not a stream of angry messages. It is a short, accurate record: what was due, what was paid, when it was due and what the employer said.

The UAE Government’s official portal says private-sector employers registered with the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) must pay wages on the due date through the Wage Protection System. If the contract does not state a pay period, the worker must be paid at least monthly. The portal also explains that, unless a contract sets a shorter period, an employer is considered late if payment is not made within 15 days after the due date.

Build a one-page salary record

For each affected month, write down:

Then collect the documents behind those figures:

Use full bank statements or official transaction PDFs rather than retyped figures where possible. Mark the relevant lines, but keep the originals unchanged.

Choose the right official channel

The official UAE portal directs private-sector workers with salary concerns to MoHRE and its salary-complaint service. MoHRE’s published labour-complaint guide lists three channels for a complaint about a breach of legal or contractual obligations: the Labour Claims and Advisory Call Centre on 80084, the MoHRE website and the MoHRE UAE mobile application.

MoHRE’s worker guidance says a worker can submit a complaint within 30 days of an employer’s breach. Deadlines and the correct route can depend on the employment regime, including whether the employer is in a free zone or the worker is a domestic worker. A person who is unsure should use the official advisory channel promptly rather than relying on a social-media answer.

Describe the problem without weakening it

A useful complaint summary is factual and short:

My employment contract states a monthly wage of [amount]. Salary for [month or period] was due on [date]. I received [amount] on [date / have not received payment]. The outstanding amount is [amount]. I contacted the employer on [dates]. Copies of the contract, bank records and messages are attached.

Do not inflate the amount, combine unrelated complaints without explanation, or guess at what the employer intended. If there are additional items—commission, leave pay, notice pay or end-of-service benefits—list each separately and explain how the figure was reached.

What the platform can and cannot do

The platform can help a worker build a payment table, organise documents, prepare a neutral chronology and find the relevant official MoHRE route. It can translate the user interface and questions, but any translation submitted officially may need to meet the authority’s requirements.

It cannot decide that an employer has broken the law, guarantee recovery, negotiate as a lawyer, or file in someone else’s name without the necessary legal authority. If the facts are disputed, the sum is substantial, the employment regime is unclear or a court referral has occurred, the user should be offered a licensed lawyer review.

A small habit that helps

After every important call, write a same-day note: time, number called, person or department, what was discussed and any reference number. This is not a substitute for an official record, but it keeps the chronology accurate while events are fresh.

Frequently asked questions

When is a private-sector salary considered late?

The UAE Government portal says an employer is considered late if payment is not made within the first 15 days after the due date, unless the employment contract specifies a shorter period.

Where can I make a salary complaint?

Official routes include MoHRE’s website, the MoHRE UAE app and the Labour Claims and Advisory Call Centre on 80084. Free-zone and domestic-worker cases may require a different route.

Should I resign before complaining?

That choice can affect employment, notice, immigration and financial issues. Do not make it based on a generic article. Use MoHRE’s advisory service and seek licensed advice if needed.

Can the platform contact my employer?

Only if a clearly defined, lawful service is offered and the user expressly authorises it. The platform’s core role is preparation and connection, not legal representation or debt collection.
